E32 Disaster

Sometimes things are too good to be true. Remedy's performance this year has been excellent, but our sailing season has come to an abrupt halt. During this year's Ram Island race we ripped a bulkhead out and suffered serious damage to the deck. Sailing upwind in 15-17 knots with a heavy #1 and full main the starboard tie rod broke which caused the bulkhead to pull completely off the hull. The hardest part to face is we only had one mile to the finish! After two long spinnaker reaches with our .6 asymmetric Remedy had put some serious distance on the fleet. Our main competitors have been a fast group of J-29s and Santana 30/30s. We have enjoyed some very tight racing with them, check out our summer series results at mudhead.org. Through tuning and an aggressive sail development program we've found our stride and don't planon stopping here. Remedy will be hauled in the next two weeks and the repairs will begin. We plan on doing a complete redesign of the bulkheads. Having two former boat builders as part of our crew may prove to be valuable! Stay tuned, we'll be back.

The rest of the fleet managed to stay together and enjoy a wonderful day of racing. For complete results go to www.ramislandyachtclub.org

Somethings not right!
The chainplate on its way out!

One sail that proved quite valuable to the E32 on this reachy around the island race was a PHRF legal asymmetric spinnaker. Need one for your boat? Call 860-536-4235 or email.
